Vintage Audio Technology for the Modern Studio
V78M Mono Tube Mic Pre

V78M: Mono Tube Mic Pre with a modern twist!

V78M with new face plate

The V78M was designed to deliver the great sound of the historic V-series modules while remaining affordable for home studios.  The V78M is a modern update of the historic V72s (manufactured by Siemens) with a slight twist.  The historic V72s came with a fixed input sensitivity of -60 dB and make-up gain of +40 dB and typical modifications of this unit allow you to attenuate the make-up gain only.  In our V78M, we split the controls into an Input Sensitivity selector and a Make-up Gain selector.  This allows the unit to be set up like a stock historic V72s (-60 dB/40 dB), adjust the input sensitivity to ideally match a modern mic's output impedance, or overload the input stage to create tube harmonics, providing your recorded material with a nice edge.  Utilizing the same transformers as our high end V72S and NOS tubes, this V78M delivers that vintage sound with the modern controls needed in today's studio.
